Quantum thermodynamics
In this field, one aims at the extension of thermodynamics to the quantum world. In the larger research program one aims to
- Justify quantum statistical mechanics from first principles in quantum mechanics. In particular:
- How does a thermal equilibrium arise?
- What are the properties of thermal states?
- Extend the laws of thermodynamics to quantum physics
- Find applications, such as small thermal machines
