Quantum thermodynamics


In this field, one aims at the extension of thermodynamics to the quantum world. In the larger research program one aims to

  • Justify quantum statistical mechanics from first principles in quantum mechanics. In particular:
    • How does a thermal equilibrium arise?
    • What are the properties of thermal states?
  • Extend the laws of thermodynamics to quantum physics
  • Find applications, such as small thermal machines
